Recipient of WMA x FORMAT Fellowship 2020 announced

WMA is pleased to announce the recipient of the WMA x FORMAT Fellowship. The recipient, Caleb Fung, will be visiting FORMAT Festival at Derby in April 2020, for participating in a series of facilitated learning and development opportunities.

The WMA x FORMAT Fellowship is a professional development opportunity co-organised by WMA and FORMAT for artists/photographers from the WMA Masters programme. Candidates of WMA Masters of the ‘Light’ cycle are eligible for the programme and the selected grantee of the Fellowship is entitled to visit the United Kingdom between 23 and 29, April 2020 attending events and programmes presented by FORMAT, joining portfolio review sessions of the Festival and having personal work to be featured on FORMAT and WMA’s website. Flight, accommodation and per diem are provided.

The grantee is selected by a panel of team FORMAT, including Louise Fedotov-Clements, Director of FORMAT International Photography Festival, Peter Bonnell, Senior Curator at QUAD, and Laura O’Leary, Assistant Curator at QUAD, and Luna Chan, Project Manager of team WMA.

“Caleb has offered details into the nuances of his works and how he uses everyday materials such as cotton and water to recreate moments from the protests. These fictional constructions are visually attractive where weapons, tear gas and laser beam appear as symbols of protest, offering an alternative and reflective insight into the movement in Hong Kong alongside a wider body of work.” says Louise Fedotov-Clements. “We believe he will greatly benefit from the FORMAT portfolio reviews and this will be a great opportunity to share his work with industry experts from around the world and broaden his network.”
