Project Statement

Somewhere in Time

We agglomerate the light piercing through the dry room again.
Reviving the passing scenes once more.

Public Phone Booths were built all over the city by the British Hong Kong Government from the 50s. Yet, with the development of technology and widespread network, gleams of smartphone are now wandering throughout the city. The light has extinguished, with thousands of square- meter pavilions abandoned.

We wrapped the disabled booth with a reflective shawl. Along with a pieced colonial coin, it became a pinhole darkroom. Through the invented image inside, we shuttled back and forth between different landmarks before/after the Handover in order to record the endless political relationship of  “unloading” and “constructing” in the city.

A dumped Phone Booth waiting to be dismantled,
A ditched Victoria Queen waiting to be circulated.
